There is nothing better for getting to know a destination than viewing it on foot. Avenues, promenades and historical centres of towns and villages on Tenerife will show off their rich heritage.


  • Along the Sculpture Route

    ramblas de santa cruz This pedestrian route, under the shade of the leafy Indian Laurel trees, runs along the pleasant avenue called the "Ramblas de Santa Cruz de Tenerife." It crosses the entire city and was the venue for the 1st International Exhibition of Street Sculpture, held in 1973.  This event enriched the artistic patrimony of the city with the works of such well-known sculptors as, Miró or Henry Moore. Today it makes up a truly open-air museum, which is continually added to with both new and older works. .../

    El Tanque It is one of three districts in Tenerife that has no coast. It belongs to the Isla Baja region and is situated in the northeast of the island, surrounded by the districts of Garachico, Santiago del Teide and Los Silos.
    El Tanque is in a great natural setting. A large part of its territory is taken up by the most important nature parks of the island. This is the case of the Corona Forestal Nature Park, the Teno one or the Special Nature Reserve of Chinyero.
    In an area where agriculture is the main economic activity, it is worth mentioning the importance of its traditions. Examples of which are the fiestas in honour of the Santo Cristo del Calvario, the fiesta of San Antonio de Padua or the one of Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje.
    A visit to historical centre of El Tanque allows you to appreciate its architectural heritage, in particular the Town Hall building, the Caserón de los Guzmanes and the houses of Los Martelos and la Alhóndiga.

    Ruta peatonal Los Silos This majestic town of the Isla Baja region received the name of Los Silos in 1509 as a result of the extensive construction of silos for storing cereals. Raising livestock and farming are its main sources of income.
    The town of Los Silos is noted for the abundance and variety of its flora and fauna. It is located right in the middle of the Teno massif and in extraordinarily beautiful surroundings. From the coast to the highest point of the district, we come across some of the most attractive nature parks in Tenerife: Monte del Agua; Interián, which is a site of special scientific interest; the cliffs of the Culata or the pools of Erjos are just some of them.
    In this town, there are many ancient routes created by the locals to help the passage of pack animals. Nowadays, nature-lovers and students enjoy these trails, which still preserve their cobblestones. There are three main routes: Las Moradas, the Cuevas Negras and the Talavera.
    Los Silos also has a varied heritage that provides visitors with an unforgettable stroll around the charming corners of its historical centre.
    Culture and traditions are linked to the daily life of the district. Various festivals take place throughout the year in Los Silos. One of the most important is the popular fiesta of its patron saint, Nuestra Señora de La Luz, in September. Equally attractive are the ones of San Antonio Abad, in the middle of January or the Corpus Christi.

    candelaria The Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (Our Lady of Candelaria), the patron saint of the Canary Islands, is located in the southern town of Candelaria and attracts visitors and locals alike. The church, in neo-classic style with a mudejar roof, is crowned by a 25 metre diameter dome. The facade of its central tower is beautifully decorated with a typical Canarian balcony. Inside the small statue of the Virgin of Candelaria, also known as "La Morenita" (the dark-skinned lady), is carrying the baby Jesus in her right arm and a candle in her left hand. .../
